Montell Jordan Works Well With Rappers
04/14/2000 12:00 PM, Yahoo! Music Craig Rosen
(4/14/00, 12 p.m. ET) - Montell Jordan may be known as a proven R&B singer, but the Los Angeles crooner has also worked extensively with a number of hip-hop's biggest stars. He's collaborated with Redman, Master P, Silkk The Shocker, and LL Cool J. In fact, LL Cool J appears on the remix for "Get It On…Tonite," which is the title track from Jordan's 1999 album and peaked as the No. 4. Jordan told LAUNCH why he thinks he works so well with rappers. "I think because of my sensibilities, because of my street knowledge. I think because of coming from South Central Los Angeles I was able to identify, even through R&B, through lyrics and through melodies and through harmonies, the same story that the rap artists are able to tell," he said. Each of Jordan's four albums, 1995's This Is How We Do It
, 1996's More, 1998's Let's Ride, and 1999's Get It On…Tonite, has been certified either gold or platinum. Jordan is scheduled to tour this summer with Kelly Price. -- Soren Baker, Los Angeles
