Eve Denies Drinking Caused Ruff Ride

The justice system just can't keep up with Eve.
Apparently choosing not to wait around for her arraignment, which was scheduled for Thursday, the rapper pleaded not guilty today to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge, Los Angeles City Attorney's Office spokesman Nick Velasquez confirmed to E! Online.
The Grammy winner was arrested Apr. 26 after she plowed her gold Maserati into a center divider on Hollywood Boulevard at about 2:40 a.m.
Eve, whose full name is Eve Jihan Jeffers, wasn't injured in the crash, but she was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence after failing a Breathalyzer test administered at the scene, police said. She was taken into custody and, after receiving a visit from pal Sean Penn, was released after posting $30,000 bail.
While the 28-year-old Barbershop actress has now pleaded innocent to charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 or above and failing to provide proof of insurance (a vehicular code infraction), she is facing a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.
A minimum sentence would entail three years' probation, a fine of at least $390 and participation in an alcohol-education program.
A pretrial hearing has been set for June 28 at the Metropolitan Branch Courthouse. Eve did not appear in court today, instead entering her plea via her attorney.
